Snow in ScotlandThe MET office have predicted one of the harshest, and therefore most snowy I hope, winters in decades. They used the North Atlantic Oscillation system, which analyses a series of pressure readings between the Azores and Iceland, which they stress is accurate only about 60% of the time. But that's good enough for me. Now - who would like to wager a small bet of honour on when the first ground snow, of more than 2 inches, appears at Elgin High Street - for those of you who don't know its a town in the north east of Scotlandshire. I will monitor said levels and do so with much integrity. I say it will be December 19. By shambols at 15/11/2005 - 18:41 | Snowboard general chat | login or register to post comments | 422 reads
I would say that is a bit optimisticAlthough there is an urban consensus that it's going to be a snowy winter, I reckon 2 inches is a bit optimistic. I'm not sure that I even remember two inches of snow in town ever. Nonetheless, I'll go for December 26th. The cairngorms ptarmigan webcam was pretty white looking today though, hopefully this is a sign of things to come. There was snow in RothesThere was snow in Rothes last night, and sleet in Elgin. I think it might even come sooner and when it does, it will most certainly dump down - mark my words. Your boxing day entry has been logged. You might be right...The lecht is reporting a 'Covering of snow on the hill' - whatever that means. When we went up on boxing day or the 27th december lat year they were open and had loads of people there but I wouldn't say there was a 'Covering of snow on the hill'! early sprinklingsI'm raising the stakes by offering £1 to the person who has the closest bid, honour is clearly not drawing the crowds. Snow was recorded at Elgin High Street today, but not two inches. |
