Ben Rinnes

The elusive ride down Ben Rinnes lured us back for another attempt to summit with our bikes, this was our third visit to the Ben. A cool sunny December day, light winds in the car park, the veiw of the summit showing clouds moving past at a fair pace but not as fast as previously. As we're getting changed in the van, Andy laughing at me starting the day with a slow punture before we even start to ascend. Bag packed with bike pump, some tools, water, apples, body armour and helmet and after a banana we start the climb. Over an hour and many profanities later we've done it - finally - we summited Ben Rinnes with our bikes. Now time for the good bit, the downhill. There are three sections to the hill, the first being from the summit to the first dip, steep and a little technical with man made staircases and the wind trying to blow you off the track sideways. After the dip the next section is faster with rough enough terrian to be glad of spending some of your hard earned on suspension. Again after a short bit of flat, good for a breather, the remainder of down hill which is fast, loose and rocky returns you to the car park. That was the plan anyway, but half way down the first section Andy gets a puncture then I puncture at the bottom of the same bit. Of course as usual we were not carrying any spare tubes with us.
The Rinnes had got us again. We'll be back...
