Visited Learnie Red Rock Mtb trails today

I had the opportunity to visit Learnie Red Rock trails today for the first time - was a lot of fun.

From the car park the waymarked cycle up to the top of the red graded fun park was windy uphill singletrack - a little like hard work for an only very recently reformed smoker! Came down the red, slowly to check out the features. Lots of double humps, good big berms to throw yourself into.

After the fun park we climbed back up and over the top of the hill. The black downhill was closed for renovations; had a little wander there just to see what it holds. We embarked instead on the black on the other side of the back valley. Conditions were ok. It had been raining a little earlier in the day and many of the stone features were too intimidating for me. The end of the trail is a bit annoying, uphill - and with an uphill northshore elevated log trail. Just after that the trail ends with steepish stone stairs down to the road.

So, back up to the road to the top of the hill, traverse along the top to the head of the fun park again and a final run down through the fun park a little faster this time. Couple of times mud got me in the eyes though. Note to self: remember to invest in eye protection. Then the green trail back to the car park which was kinda fun too in a quick, fast and semi-carefree kind of way.

Amazing views from the top of the hill, when the sun shone 'right' we could see over the water to the windmills at Glenlatterach Reservoir. All in, Learnie is a lot of fun, varied, seems to have a lot of potential and seems to be developing well. Oh yeah, the little 'skills loop' or whatever they call it at the Car Park is kind of neat too. Great afternoon.
