Spey Bay Surf Comp Results

Hello Soul people. Soul Fibre Surf shop held its first surf competition on thursday at a clean, three foot Spey Bay. There was a good turn out of local surfers competing in the 25 minute best wave score wins comp. On his first outing riding a new board, James Whiteside styled his way to 1st place on a clean set wave. Chris Kellas took 2nd thanks to consistantly good surfing, with David Taylor 3rd. Thanks to everyone who turned up to support and take part. Photos of the comp and information on future surf and skate comps will be available in the shop at 27 Batchen Street, Elgin or at soulfibre.com

boredom is no longer with me

i'm finally back on my bike again after spending 7 weeks with a wrist brace on because i might have a broken wrist

i decided to take the thing off as i'm not feeling pain as much in it now

so on sunday we went to hopeman skatepark with my bike and the 2 bmx's and i fianlly managed to land a couple of 180's. go me!

and ging was a proper laugh at the party on saturday, although he left early like an ammatuer and didn't stay all night like most of us....

perhaps he's just feeling his age at last.

No progress - learner no more.

In time honoured fashion, as with many thrusts in life, skateboarding has temporarily fallen by the wayside for me. When I say temporarily, I really mean it has forever been ditched. I realise my last posting, some time ago now, charted me showing a renewed vigour to learning the sport and a commitment to improve. It hasn't happened, I remain the floundering idiot on a skateboard that I long-attempted not to be. I could use the ramp closing down as an excuse, but it would be a poor one as there are more at Hopeman - a mere 10 miles away. Equally viable would be the onset of winter, long hours at work, a reluctance to damage the environment by driving elsewhere, and the inexplicable dissapearance of my essential kneee and elbow pads.

Je suis ici!

Salut!

Here, for your viewing pleasure, is the view from the balcony of our apartment in downtown Bourg St Maurice. Flights and transfer went without a hitch. Lifts open next weekend and snow is at least a possibility between now and then. Reports indicate that we are currently a little short. We do however have plenty of beer and baguettes. I'm pleased to report that all is therefore well in the fifth republic.

À bientôt.

Ben Rinnes

The elusive ride down Ben Rinnes lured us back for another attempt to summit with our bikes, this was our third visit to the Ben. A cool sunny December day, light winds in the car park, the veiw of the summit showing clouds moving past at a fair pace but not as fast as previously. As we're getting changed in the van, Andy laughing at me starting the day with a slow punture before we even start to ascend. Bag packed with bike pump, some tools, water, apples, body armour and helmet and after a banana we start the climb. Over an hour and many profanities later we've done it - finally - we summited Ben Rinnes with our bikes. Now time for the good bit, the downhill. There are three sections to the hill, the first being from the summit to the first dip, steep and a little technical with man made staircases and the wind trying to blow you off the track sideways. After the dip the next section is faster with rough enough terrian to be glad of spending some of your hard earned on suspension. Again after a short bit of flat, good for a breather, the remainder of down hill which is fast, loose and rocky returns you to the car park. That was the plan anyway, but half way down the first section Andy gets a puncture then I puncture at the bottom of the same bit. Of course as usual we were not carrying any spare tubes with us.
